What is the USCIS API?
People mean two things by it. USCIS runs an official Case Status API for registered software developers, which returns a case's public status and its history. Applicants usually mean the richer data behind their own myUSCIS account: event codes, the office handling the case, documents and silent updates. CaseStatusAPI explains that second kind, from your own signed-in account. The two, side by side.
Is this official?
No. CaseStatusAPI is an independent tool, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to USCIS or any government agency. We read the data your own myUSCIS account already shows you, and explain it.
Is it safe?
You sign in on the official myUSCIS site, in your own browser. We never see or ask for your password. You copy your case data and paste it here, or let our iPhone Shortcut or Chrome extension do the copying.
Do you store my data?
We never store the name, A-Number, address, or documents from your case. Your filing is analyzed in real time. If you share with the community (on by default), we keep a de-identified copy of the case data, with names, A-Numbers and addresses removed and your receipt number reduced to a keyed one-way hash and its 8-character block prefix, and build the timeline benchmarks from it; you can opt out and delete your contribution at any time. If you buy a report, we save it (it shows your receipt number) behind a private link for 90 days so you can reopen it, and you can delete it sooner. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use and protect receipt numbers.
Why only IOE receipts?
Cases with receipt numbers starting with IOE are handled in USCIS's electronic system (ELIS), which is where this detailed data lives. Paper-filed cases (EAC, WAC, LIN, SRC and others) don't show it.
